Can You Ride An Ebike In The Rain?

Yes, you can ride an ebike in the rain! We know this well because we design and test our ebikes in rainy Portland, Oregon. However, there are important considerations to keep in mind to ensure both your safety and the longevity of your ebike. Vvolt bikes are designed to handle wet conditions, with all important electrical connections rated to IPX6, meaning they're protected from splashes of water from any direction. However, no ebikes are fully waterproof (IPX7 or higher) so it’s probably a good idea to avoid riding our bikes underwater!

Though your ebike pedal-assist functions work as normal in the rain, you'll still want to make changes in how you ride! When riding in the rain, slow down to improve your reaction time to slippery surfaces and potential hazards. Ensure your ebike's lights are on for visibility, and consider wearing reflective or brightly colored clothing.

It's also advisable to dress appropriately for the weather, using waterproof gear to keep yourself dry. Did you know our sibling brand is Showers Pass apparel? We love their high quality outerwear and definitely recommend checking out their line of pants, jackets, and accessories.

Adding fenders to your ebike will keep dirty road spray from wet roads and puddles from getting you wet. After riding in the rain, store your ebike in a dry place. Even though the electronics are protected there are other bike components that aren't great to leave out in the rain 24/7.  Not riding a Vvolt ebike? Always follow your manufacturer's guidelines for more specific advice related to your ebike's model.

By taking these precautions, you can safely enjoy riding your ebike in the rain while minimizing the risk to yourself and your bike.
